Steven Gerrard Academy are delighted to announce the launch of a brand-new partnership with Ian Rush and Amar Chopra, which is set to support the academies vision to make their full-time football education programmes available to 16–19-year-olds nationwide by 2025.

This innovative partnership will see Steven Gerrard Academy programmes launched at selected sites owned by Ian Rush and IRAMA. Whyteleafe FC in Surrey will be the first live site in September 2021.

Places are limited to twenty students for the 2021 intake and Steven Gerrard Academy are looking for school leavers who have serious ambitions about playing football at a high level, continuing their studies and have a passion to work in all areas of the global football industry.

Newly crowned Scottish Premier League Champion, Rangers FC Manager and Academy Director Steven Gerrard said ’’We are thoroughly looking forward to launching the academy in Surrey from September 2021. The South of England has consistently produced talented players, coaches and specialists in football – we are passionate about playing our part in supporting the next generation to kick on and achieve their goals ’‘.

Successful applicants will study towards a BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development and work inside the classroom will be complimented by technical and tactical sessions on the pitch, alongside regular fixtures. A sports science approach is implemented at the academy meaning students benefit from video analysis, rehabilitation, and personalised nutrition plans.

The football programme is led by former professional footballers who are supported by a network of professionals from the football industry who offer their time to guide and mentor students. Current academy players have recently enjoyed talks with Steven Gerrard, legendary football commentator Martin Tyler and Liverpool FC’s former Chief Executive, Peter Moore – to name but a few.

Speaking about the work of the academy and the plans behind this new partnership, Ian Rush said this about his involvement and the support he will offer to the next generation of aspiring players and football leaders: ‘’I am delighted to partner with Steven Gerrard Academy, for me it’s a natural fit. Steven’s dedication and contribution to football is something special. I have been working closely with Amar from Irama to create this project, he has the same vision as myself for the future of football and how we can help where needed. Over the years I have told footballers that the key is never be afraid to miss in front of goal, the same applies to everyday life, never be afraid to fail, if you do, then move on to the next chapter until you do achieve your goal.”

Steven Gerrard Academy has a long-standing history of students progressing from the programme to playing professional and semi-professional football. Talented players will be invited to compete in the academies annual showcase event taking place in April which is attended by scouts from across the football pyramid and it includes coaches from USA universities.

The academy is a regular guest at the Dallas Cup and even won the prestigious competition back in 2017; this is just one of the many unique experiences students will have the opportunity to access as part of the 2- year programme.

Applications for September 2021 are now open and young people who have aspirations of becoming players, coaches, working in sports science and the media are encouraged to join Steven Gerrard Academy’s virtual taster session on Wednesday March 31st at 4:30pm.
